Volunteers preparung to perform duties on royal cremation day
BANGKOK, 12 October 2017 (NNT) - The Traffic Police Division has offered recommendations on car parks and public transportation for commuters who will attend His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej's royal cremation at Sanam Luang on October 26th, 2017.
The Deputy Commander of the Traffic Police Division, Pol Col Phusit Wisetkhamin, said the Metropolitan Police Bureau and the Ministry of Transport have prepared a variety of routes and modes of transportation during the royal cremation period.
Pol Col Phusit said motorists can park their vehicles at four designated parking spots in Bangkok. They can accommodate more than 30,000 cars in total, and commuters can then take a shuttle bus service to areas near the royal cremation venue.
There are additional parking lots provided by the private sector, such as Show DC in Rama 9, which can accommodate 2,000 cars, and a shuttle bus service will also be provided.
The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) will provide shuttle bus services at various spots, such as Central Plaza Bangna and the Police Club from October 25, 2017, to accommodate a large number of people because it is necessary to close the roads around the ceremonial grounds from Ratchadamnoen Road to the Royal Plaza.
People can also travel by train by parking their vehicles near the railway stations in Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya, Chachoengsao and Nakhon Pathom provinces before taking a train to Yommarat Station, which is closest to the ceremonial grounds.
Commuters can also travel via the Bangkok Airport Rail Link to Ladkrabang station, which is connected to Yommarat Station. Another alternative is the ferry service at the Ministry of Commerce in Nonthaburi or Sathorn Pier.
Pol Col Phusit said over 1,700 traffic police officers will be dispatched during each shift to facilitate the commuters. For more information, please call 1197 available around the clock.
