Meeting called to wrap up Krabi massacre case - Phuket News

Police investigators in the Krabi massacre held a meeting today in Krabi province  to assess the development in the case and  collect all evidence to back their application to the provincial court in Krabi for arrest warrants of all the suspects they have arrested.

The meeting was chaired by Pol Gen Suchart Thirasawat, senior advisor to the Royal Thai Police commissioner.

Pol Gen Suchart said the meeting was aimed at collecting more evidence to have  arrest warrants from the court for extended detention  as the police could detain  all the eight suspects under the military junta’s order for only  seven days.

The arrest warrants from the court  are necessary as all the seven suspects they arrested yesterday were made on the power given by Order No 44 of the National  Council for Peace and Order which permits the detention of suspects for questioning for just 7 days.

It was expected that the warrant process will take three days, he said.

According to the senior police advisor, all seven suspects claimed that they were deceived  by Sureefut Bannobwongsakul, or known as Bang Fut, a money lender, the mastermind of the massacre.

He said all seven suspects claimed they were deceived by Bang Fut to hold the village headman Worayut Sanglang  in custody just to collect debts he owed to him with promise that they would be paid 1,000 baht each.

But after they went there it turned out to be massacre, they said.

However the senior police said this has yet to be found out by investigators to certify their claims.

Yesterday Royal Thai Police commissioner Pol Gen Chaktip named 41-year-old Sureefut Bannobwongsakul or  Bang Fut, a money lender,  the mastermind in the massacre.

At the same time Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit  Wongsuwan admired the Royal Thai Police commissioner for his good job in making the arrest of all perpetrators involved in the Krabi massacre.

Gen Prawit, also the defence minister, admired the police for making the swift arrest of the massacre team.

He mentioned the police commissioner Pol Gen Chaktip Chaijinda in particular saying he had done a good job after going down to the South to personally supervise the case by himself.

He said the police team has achieved the work and fulfilled what the people have hoped to see.

He later assured the public that perpetrators in other cases, including the Phramongkhutklao Hospital bombing, would also be arrested.

Meanwhile Thai PBS team of reporters were at the scene today at Ban Klang in Ao Luek.

Interviews with relatives of the victim’s and villagers showed they strongly disagreed with the police’s finding that  a land dispute was a strongest motive of the massacre.

They suspected other motives which the police should look into closely and find it out.
